WELCOME TO THE BLOG

Congratulations on your growing family! Having worked with many families over the years, I’m excited to share 7 tips for creating functional baby spaces that help make the transition to parenthood a little bit easier.
Tip #1: Declutter Before Baby Arrives
The months leading up to your baby are the perfect time to declutter your home. Babies do require a lot of stuff, which can quickly feel overwhelming, so paring down other belongings beforehand helps create space and makes the transition smoother.
Ask friends for advice on which baby items are truly essential versus what ended up being a waste, and remember you can always purchase additional items as needed after your little one arrives!

Tip #2: Choose Multifunctional Furniture
Consider choosing baby furniture with multiple functions, like a changing station built on top of a dresser or a crib that converts into a toddler bed. Not only does this save space, but it can also save money in the long run.
You might also think about installing a custom closet system, like an Elfa from Container Store, to provide functional storage that can evolve as your child grows.

Tip #3: Organize Items Strategically
Give every baby item a strategic home, and try to store things where they will actually be used. Random piles of diapers, clothes, or toys create unnecessary stress, while intentional systems make life so much easier for sleep-deprived parents.
When everything has a place, finding what you need becomes effortless, leaving you more time to focus on your little one.

Tip #4: Label Everything for Ease
Labeling drawers, bins, and caddies can make daily routines so much simpler. It makes restocking or reordering supplies a breeze and allows other adults to step in and help more easily when you and your partner need a break.
Clear labels mean everyone knows exactly where things belong, reducing stress and keeping the household running smoothly.

Tip #5: Prep and Sanitize Early
Sanitize items like bottles and pacifiers, and launder clothes, burp cloths, and other fabric items as soon as you receive them. As you sort clothing, organize it by size and store older sizes in bins at the top of the closet for later use.
Be sure to use baby-specific laundry detergent and soap to protect their sensitive skin, so everything is clean, organized, and ready when you need it.

Tip #6: Stock the Freezer and Fridge
Before your baby arrives, take time to clean out your refrigerator and freezer to make space for freezer meals prepared in advance, which can be a lifesaver during those first hectic weeks.
It also ensures there’s plenty of room for storing pumped breastmilk safely and efficiently. Starting with a clean, organized fridge and freezer helps reduce stress and keeps essentials easy to find.

Tip #7: Create Helpful Stations Throughout Your Home
Well-stocked stations throughout the house can make life so much easier once your baby arrives. Use soft divided baskets or rolling carts to create a postpartum station in the main bathroom, a bottle station in the kitchen, and changing stations on each floor, so everything you need is within reach.
These little hubs save time, reduce stress, and help keep your home running smoothly during those busy early days.

While having a plan for organizing your home and baby’s spaces is incredibly helpful, the ability to pivot when needed is just as important. Flexibility, not perfection, is truly the key to staying sane, happy, and successful during those first months with your newborn.
