What Is 'Organized' Anyway?

September 15, 20222 min read

What exactly qualifies as organized?

I mean, really? Is it having your closet color-coded and labeled?

Or it is that the clothes are actually in the closet and not on the floor?

Maybe for you, being organized is somewhere in between...

And while it’s one thing to have objects and space organized, what comes to mind when you think about organizing time, energy and other resources?

According to the National Association of Productivity and Organizing (NAPO) there are two main categories of organizing specialties known as professional organizers and productivity consultants.

Denver Home Organizer

Organized means that you can find what you need when you need it and go live your best life- whatever that looks like for you.

Professional organizers support evaluation, decision-making and action around objects, space and data. They help achieve desired outcomes regarding function, order and clarity.

Productivity consultants, on the other hand, support evaluation, decision-making and action around time, energy and resources. They help achieve desired outcomes regarding goals, effectiveness and priorities.

Read that again... wow!

Who couldn’t benefit from some coaching and consulting to increase function, order, clarity, goals, priorities and effectiveness? Yes, please! I sum it all up to be living your best life.

So, what does it mean to be organized?

It looks different for each person. In the most simple sense, getting organized is having your time and objects aligned to your goals and priorities.

With this alignment you can move efficiently toward what makes you feel alive. And because we each have different goals and priorities, “organized” looks looks different in our eyes.

We all know what it looks like to NOT be organized… the feelings of frustration, insecurity, overwhelm and embarrassment to name a few.

I have heard of living in disorganization referred to as C.H.A.O.S. syndrome…when you Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome.

For some, this is what it looks like and feels like to be “disorganized.” For others, its running around in the mornings, yelling at the kids to get out the door and searching to find you phone and keys and still make it to school on time.

Many of my clients feel the chaos the most in a move. They begin their life in a new place thinking that they can get everything in it’s place because they had it all functioning in the last one- only to find that nothing fits the way to did before. And that is frustrating.

Whatever season of life you are in, life your best life by being in control of your time and things.

Don’t hesitate to reach out for some help from a friend, family member or even a pro organizer. We are all in this together and when you look and feel great you can pass it on! For answers to your questions about hiring a professional organizer check out our FAQ page.
