How We Organize a Home from Start to Finish

When you are staring down a house full of stuff, the hardest part is often knowing where to start. At Organized by Keli & Co, we have refined a process that takes you from chaos to clarity without the stress, decision fatigue, or endless trips to the store. Here is a behind-the-scenes look at how we typically run an organizing project, from the very first phone call to the final walk-through.

Step 1: Discovery & Scoping

Every project begins with a quick call. We will ask about your goals, timeline, and the spaces that feel most urgent. We also take into account household dynamics such as kids, pets, accessibility needs, or ADHD. Your systems have to fit real life, not an idealized version of it.

From there, we align on the scope. That might mean one closet, a few priority rooms, or a whole home.


Step 2: Proposal & Scheduling

Once we understand your needs, we recommend the right package (Small, Medium, Large, or Whole-Home) and suggest the team size that will get the job done efficiently. A typical day runs 9–3 with a team of 2–4.

We can also set a cap on your product budget for bins, dividers, or labels so you know we will stay within your comfort zone. A 50 percent deposit secures your dates, and the balance is based on actual hours used.


Step 3: Pre-Day Prep

Before our team arrives, we gather a few key details: your top priorities, any must-keep items, and sensitivities.

We always start with what you already own. Product purchases only happen once categories are finalized. No overbuying and no wasted bins.


Step 4: On-Site Day One

The first 15–20 minutes are a walkthrough with your lead organizer to confirm the plan. Then the magic begins:

  • We set up tables

  • Pull everything out by zone

  • Sort and categorize

This structure dramatically reduces decision fatigue. Instead of digging through endless piles, you shop from neatly grouped categories: keep, donate, or discard. We take care of the physical and mental heavy lifting, leaving you to focus on the decisions only you can make.

From there, we space plan, contain, and label, setting up systems that are intuitive and easy to maintain.

Step 5: Donations, Haul-Away & Product

When the sorting is done, we handle donations. Standard-sized loads can go straight in our vehicles. Larger items or junk can be scheduled with trusted partners.

If product is needed, we measure and source reliable options, most often from Container Store or IKEA. We keep receipts and return unused items. For whole-home retainers, shopping and returns are typically included. Otherwise, we keep it streamlined and transparent.


Step 6: Daily Wrap-Up

Around 2:45, we walk you through the finished space. We explain placement logic, demonstrate quick maintenance tips, and make sure the systems feel natural to you. We also confirm any next steps, whether that means booking another space or scheduling a second session.


Step 7: Maintenance & Beyond

Many clients choose to bring us back for reset visits, either monthly, quarterly, or seasonally. These tune-ups are especially helpful for busy families or ADHD-friendly systems that evolve as life does.
